Rape is a type of sexual assault usually involving sexual intercourse, which is initiated by one or more persons against another person without that person's consent. Sexual intercourse with a minor is commonly referred to as statutory rape, because a minor is considered under the law to be incapable of giving consent to engage in a sex act. Rape, as with many other sex crimes, carry with them the additional requirement of having to register with a local police agency as a sex offender for the rest of one's life.
